Prom Dress Success!

Our prom and tech event was a wonderful success and we’re so glad to be able to share with you!

After only three weeks, our Spokeo team, with the help from our Pasadena community and our galpals  at Idealab, we collected more than 70 gently used formal dresses. Seventeen  young ladies from Learning Works Charter School visited the Spokeo offices last friday to learn about career opportunities in technology for women and “shop” for prom dresses.

The girls arrived shortly after lunch and were whisked off on a tour of every single department at Spokeo. From accounting to design they asked questions about what we do here and how life at Spokeo moves along. Following the tour, we gathered in the Spokeo lunch area to enjoy cupcakes from Dots in Pasadena and hear more specifically from some of the ladies at Spokeo regarding their career path and their passions.

Spokeo backend developer, Asma, talking about careers in coding.

They heard from our Director of Payments, a graphic designer, a backend developer and someone who moved through customer service into our payments team. They had a lot of wonderful questions from different majors in college to what type of skill sets are needed.

Following the presentations we let them loose and the dress shopping began! We kept some especially funky options on the racks just to see if we could garner a few laughs, and we did.

It was such a fun time. Though not all ladies went home with a dress, they did all go home with some extra inspiration, and a gift bag with some Spokeo swag, a lipgloss and a nail polish.

We can’t wait to hear about the grand time they have at prom and later the major coding skills that they’re putting to work!

We’d like to give a special round of thanks to Town and Country Event Rentals who sponsored the garment racks for us and to Bryan’s Cleaners & Laundry who provided free dress cleanings for the girls and their dresses!
